MIChild and Healthy Kids

 
MIChild is a health insurance program for uninsured children of Michigan’s working families.  MIChild services are provided by many HMOs and various other health care plans throughout Michigan. Healthy Kids is a health insurance program for pregnant women, babies (may be eligible up to one year), and children under 19. 
 

MIChild

 What does it cover?

 MIChild covers:

  •   Regular check-ups
  •   Shots
  •   Emergency care
  •   Dental care
  •   Pharmacy
  •   Hospital care
  •   Prenatal care and delivery
  •   Vision and hearing
  •   Mental health and substance abuse services

 *Other services may be covered as well, when you coverage begins, you will be given a full list of what is covered.

 How much does it cost?

If your child qualifies, you will pay a monthly premium of $5.  If you have more than one child, you still will only pay $5 a month.  There are no co-pays and no deductibles.

 Who Qualifies?

 Children must:

  •  Be citizens of the US (some legal immigrants may apply)
  •  Live in Michigan, even for a short time
  •  Be under 19 years old
  •  Have no health insurance
  •  Live in a family with monthly income under:

                 $1,800 for a family of 2

                 $2,300 for a family of 3

                 $2,800 for a family of 4

                 $3,200 for a family of 5

  

Healthy Kids

What is the Coverage?

Coverage for Pregnant Women includes:

  •   Checkups (prenatal care) before the baby is born
  •   Lab and X-ray tests
  •   Prenatal vitamins
  •   Delivery (birth) of the baby
  •   Hospital Care
  •   Care for the baby after they are born
  •   Other services

Healthy Kids coverage includes most medically necessary health care needs:

  •   Ambulance
  •   Dental
  •   Doctor visits
  •   Family Planning
  •   Health check-ups
  •   Hearing and speech
  •   Home health care
  •   Hospice care
  •   Hospital care
  •   Immunizations (shots)
  •   Lab and x-ray tests
  •   Nursing home care
  •   Medical supplies
  •   Medicine
  •   Mental Health
  •   Personal care services
  •   Physical therapy
  •   Prenatal care and support services (MSS/ISS)
  •   Substance abuse
  •   Surgery
  •   Vision

HOW TO APPLY:

To apply for MIChild and/or Healthy Kids, fill out the MIChild-Healthy Kids form.  For help filling out the form, contact your local Health Department or your local Family Independence Agency office.

When applying, you must:

  •   Be a Michigan citizen or a legal immigrant
  •   Tell if you have medical insurance
  •   List your family’s gross income
