With the support of the
Montcalm County Oral Health Coalition, the Health Department was
successful in obtaining a $378,000 grant from the Michigan Department of
Community Health to establish a dental clinic to serve Medicaid and other
low-income clients in the Montcalm County schools area. On September
20, 2000, the 1,375-square-foot Stanton Dental Care Center was completed,
became fully operational and began seeing clients under the direction of
Dr. Ammar Houssein, D.D.S. The Dental Center annually serves approximately 1,200 to 1,500 patients – primarily children – providing more than 4,000 treatment and prevention appointments. Broad goals include the reduced incidence of oral disease and an improved oral health status among this population. These goals can be accomplished through the increased ability of clients to make positive decisions regarding their oral health practices and behaviors via services and guidance provided by the Dental Center. In 2003, improvements were made in patient scheduling and appointments kept, increasing the number of appointments available for children, and in working with the agency’s oral health prevention coordinator to strengthen good oral health information in area schools. During 2004, emphasis was given toward restoring adult Medicaid access to basic dental care services, trying to improve the long-range financial stability of the Dental Center, and strengthening outreach to area dentists and others to volunteer time and resources for dental services for low-income residents.Address: 620 West Main Street Suite B, PO Box 161, Stanton, MI 48888 Telephone: 989-831-7071 Fax: 989-831-5860 Toll Free: 1-866-831-7071 |
