Children's Oral Health

MMDHD Kids Oral HealthTooth decay in children is a widespread preventable disease. Children as young as 12 to 18 months can get cavities. Cavities in baby teeth can cause pain and even prevent children from being able to eat, speak, sleep and learn properly. Implementing proven strategies, such as fluoride varnish, has potential to prevent a significant burden of disease. Mid-Michigan District Health Department's Fluoride Varnish Program targets children age 0 to 5 during their Women, Infants and Children (WIC) appointments. During these appointments, children may receive a dental screening and/or fluoride varnish treatment, oral health tools and education.
